You just got into a 4 Series. The last thing you want to think about is service. But staying ahead of your 2026 BMW 4 Series maintenance schedule is one of the easiest ways to protect the investment you just made, keep your warranty intact, and make sure the car drives like a 4 Series is supposed to for years down the road. Here is exactly what to expect and when.

How the BMW Condition Based Service System Works

Before diving into mileage intervals, it helps to understand the BMW Condition Based Service system. Rather than relying solely on a fixed calendar or odometer reading, CBS uses onboard sensors to monitor the actual wear and condition of your vehicle’s key components, including engine oil, brake pads, and brake fluid. It alerts you when a specific service is genuinely needed, not just when a generic mileage marker has been crossed. That said, BMW still recommends fixed interval checkpoints, and following both keeps you fully covered.

5,000 Miles: Preventative Check

BMW recommends a basic preventative visit every 5,000 miles. This is a quick check of tire pressure, critical fluid levels, and a review of your CBS monitor for any alerts. No major work is typically needed at this stage, but it sets a good baseline and catches anything that might be developing early.

10,000 Miles: Oil Service

This is the first significant milestone on the 2026 BMW 4 Series maintenance schedule. At 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first, your engine oil and oil filter are replaced using BMW-approved synthetic oil. Technicians will also inspect brakes, top off fluids, check for leaks, inspect tires, adjust tire pressure, and reset the Tire Pressure Monitor. If your driving involves a lot of stop-and-go traffic or extreme conditions, some technicians recommend shortening the oil change interval to 5,000 miles.

20,000 Miles: Cabin Air Filter and Inspection

At 20,000 miles, your ventilation microfilter gets replaced to keep cabin air clean and your HVAC system running efficiently. You will also receive the same oil service and safety checks from the 10,000-mile visit. The battery in your key fob is worth checking around this interval as well, though it may last longer depending on use.

30,000 Miles: Inspection 1

The 30,000-mile mark is where the BMW 4 Series service milestones step up in scope. This is commonly called Inspection 1 and includes a thorough review of suspension and steering components, coolant levels, drive belts, fuel lines, exhaust, and the braking system. All previous services are performed alongside this deeper inspection, and your technician will reset all maintenance and warning indicators when finished.

60,000 Miles: Inspection 2

The 60,000-mile service is the most comprehensive interval on the 2026 BMW 4 Series maintenance schedule. In addition to everything covered at 30,000 miles, this visit typically includes replacing spark plugs, the engine air filter, and a brake fluid flush. Brake fluid should be replaced every two years regardless of mileage, so depending on your driving habits this service may come up on the calendar before the odometer catches up.
